democratising design and production: armature, agency and the investigation of a public fabrication typology

I aim to investigate how architectural intervention might be able to aid information sharing and catalyse democratised, bottom up production by enabling people's access to information, tools and spaces for collaboration and making. The project will explore the potential benefits of making tools and machinery that currently only exist in the formal economy accessible to a broader public, and how to do this successfully in a typology that accelerates existing means of learning, making and teaching. Adjacent to this - armature spaces that allow the organic growth of micro-enterprises will be evaluated for their ability to maintain the user-spacemaker relationship that gives rise to rich social fabric, this will be contingent on an analysis to identify the ingredients needed in condition making that would best enable growth initiated by the occupants of the space.
